Example setup process

Follow these steps for setting up a DHD console with dbc MIDIControl Software.

Before following this configuration example, make sure you have set your midi interface or software correctly as described in Conditions.


Enter MIDIControl License

dbc MIDIControl Software only works with valid License 52-8575 MIDI Protocol Converter Software in your Series 52 Core Device.

To check if the license is already installed and working correctly, see DHD Maintenance Window, delivered with every TB5 and TB8.

Configure your console

You have to create MIDI channels in your TB5 or TB8 project. MIDI channels are handled similarly to usual fader channels. Make sure you assigned correct input pools.

Note
Using Fader TFT Views with buttons for channel behavior can cause unusual behavior. We recommend creating a special MIDI Fader TFT View.

Send configuration file to your device and make sure to have at least one MIDI channel assigned. You can assign them via Input Selection.


Configure MIDIControl Software

  1. Install dbc MIDIControl Software as described in Installation.
  2. Execute dbc MIDIControl Software. The main window opens. Click Icon to open settings window.
  3. Enter the IP address of desired Series 52 Core Device into Setup Mixer > Communication-Area > IP-Address.

    Tip
    You can find out the IP address of your Series 52 Core Device via DHDCS. DHDCS starts automatically when starting the MIDIControl Software.


    The default Port setting for DHD Device control data is Port 2008.

  4. On Setup MIDI Tab, Communication Area, select your MIDI Device, as described in Functionality & Conditions.
  5. Select if you want to use Mackie Control Protocol or Mackie HUI Protocol. DHD recommends using Mackie Control.
  6. Click Assign Fader Keys and assign fader key functions. All functions supported by Mackie Control Protocol are listed here.
  7. Click Assign Central Keys and assign fader key functions. All functions supported by Mackie Control Protocol are listed here.
  8. Click OK and close settings window.

Connect

Make sure your MIDI Interface or MIDI loopback software is set up like described in Functionality & Conditions and working properly.

Make sure your DHD Console is running and your PC is connected to DHD Network.

In dbc MIDIControl Software, click to connect to your defined Series 52 Core Device via TCP/IP.

The Log window should show something like this:

DHDCS version 02010100
ReadTimeout is set to 5 ms
thread priority is set to 1.
Console: MidiControl License is valid (1).

Now click on MIDI Menu and select Device 1.

The Log window should show something like this:

midi in device 'DHD interlink' (id = 0) opened.
midi out device 'DHD interout' (id = 2) opened.

Now perform some actions with MIDI functionality on your DHD console, e.g. move a MIDI fader or Press a MIDI key. The Log window should react on it and show something like this:

Console: channel 3, key 127 pressed
Console: channel 3, fader changed to 70
Console: channel 3, fader changed to 72
Console: channel 3, fader changed to 73
Console: channel 3, fader changed to 144
Console: channel 3, fader changed to 273
Console: channel 3, key 127 released
Console: channel 3, key 3 pressed
Console: channel 3, key 3 released

When this was successful, start your DAW software. Create a new MIDI controller with your MIDI Interface and make sure to select Mackie Control or Mackie HUI Protocol, depending on your settings in MIDIControl Software.
