Configure Routing Matrices

In each matrix, you can face an arbitrary number of available inputs and outputs. But every single matrix should only include a manageable number of inputs and outputs, which are associated with each other. A matrix can show all signals from and to a studio, for example. So you are able to adapt matrices on special applications or specific users.

Click the symbol in the toolbar to create a matrix. Alternatively, you can reach this window via the Administration menu. The Matrices window appears.

Within this window you can define the inputs and outputs of the matrices.

At first, in the upper left corner of the window, you need to select a device you want to create or edit matrices for.

Click on the Add Button below the Matrices list to create a new matrix. Remove drops the currently selected matrix and Clone produces a copy of the selected matrix. Give your matrices significant names in the text box Name.

The example shows a matrix (left-handed list) with inputs and outputs of one studio. In every matrix, the relevant signals of a studio (Inputs tab) are combined with the outputs of the routing device (Outputs tab). The right-handed list shows the available sources and sinks, which can be used in a matrix. Drag'n'drop the signals from the list All Channels to the list Channels in Matrix to get them into the matrix. Alternatively, you can also use the arrow buttons to transfer the signals from one list to the other. Besides the physical inputs and outputs, internal signals can be assigned. For instance matrix inputs can be buses, pre-fader signals, clean feeds, fixed processings, output functions and super output functions. Matrix outputs can be selectors or fixed processings, too.

A matrix can contain mono and stereo signals. A stereo signal is interpreted as a channel group consisting of a left and a right signal. Stereo signals and channel groups in the list All Channels are represented by a sign in front of the channel name. If you want to insert only one channel of a stereo signal into the matrix, click on the sign and choose the desired channel from the deeper level.

Please notice, that you can use inputs and outputs only one-time in a matrix. So, if a stereo signal is already present in the matrix, it is not possible to insert a single channel of this stereo signal. The same is true for a stereo signal, if already at least one of its channels is present in the matrix.

Each matrix can contain at most 10000 input channels and 10000 output channels. For a channel group, all its mono signals need to be counted plus one channel for the group. Example: A stereo signal uses 3 channels (left, right and a group channel).

The order in the Channels in Matrix list is the order the channels are shown in the matrix. You can change this order by dragging and dropping entries of the list to another position in the list or you can use the up and down arrow keys.

The Spacer checkbox on each entry allows adding an empty line before the checked entry. This can be used to structure matrices.

The labels of the channels and MADI ports can be changed. Therefore, select the respective channel or MADI port, click on the symbol and enter a new name.

Press Apply to save your settings if you want to continue with the matrix configuration or press OK to save and close the Matrices window. It is possible to undo all settings and reload the state you had saved last by pressing Cancel.
